An unusual test for a gym

Carotid Ultrasound

As a standard procedure included in The Ultimate Package, with periodic and ongoing check-ups, testing for narrowed carotid arteries helps identify risk of heart attack or stroke.

Early detection is key

The Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) test is a standard feature included in The Ultimate Package, with regular and ongoing check-ups monitoring narrowed carotid arteries.  This test will help in identifying patients at risk for heart attack or stroke.  The CIMT is a non-invasive procedure that uses ultrasound, which requires no radiation, and can detect calcified and soft plaque. The scan measures the thickness of the inner two layers of the carotid arteries and can also identify the presence of plaque.

Having a clear picture of the health of your carotid arteries is vital for three reasons:

  • if your arterial health is compromised, we will be able to manage the risk associated with certain workouts
  • if you have healthy carotid arteries as well as optimal blood markers, you'll have peace of mind  ‍‍‍
  • early detection and monitoring of increased thickness could result in adherence to proactive lifestyle interventions, thus reducing the risk of a cardiac event and possibly eliminating the need for surgery and/or pharmaceuticals.

Our doctor will perform the ultrasound and analyze the findings in conjunction with your labs, history, and physical exams. CLICK HERE for more information from The Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
